This is Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears, written by the Irish songwriter Brendan Graham. It's the story of Annie Moore, a young Irish girl arriving in America in search of a better future. I sing it at a time when immigration and the treatment of refugees can sometimes be a source of division. The song reminds us that refugees have left homes, families and often endured real hardship to reach a place where they hope life might be better. Whatever our views, I think that's something that deserves compassion and understanding.
